If you are reading these lines, you probably know all too well the pain, uncertainty, and exhaustion that hidradenitis suppurativa brings. Perhaps you have spent sleepless nights, days hiding lesions, or moments when you felt that no one truly understood what you were going through. I also know what it means to live with a disease that affects not only the body, but also self-esteem, relationships, and hope.
That is why I want to write to you today to remind you of something important: we are not alone, and the future is no longer the same as it was a few years ago.
Hidradenitis suppurativa remains a complex disease, and it is true that there is still no definitive cure. However, never before has research advanced with such intensity. Around the world, scientists, dermatologists, and research teams are working on new treatments, and several drugs are already in advanced stages of development.
Every study, every clinical trial, and every new discovery represents an opening door for those of us who have spent far too long waiting for better options.
This does not mean that change will arrive tomorrow. Nor does it mean that the path will stop being difficult overnight. But it does mean that there are real reasons to look to the future with hope.
And while we wait, there is something we can do starting today: seek out and build community. Talking with other patients, sharing experiences, and feeling understood can ease a burden that we often carry in silence.
Let us remember that our worth is not measured by our lesions, surgeries, or scars, nor by our most difficult days. Hidradenitis suppurativa is part of our story, but it does not define our future.
With warmth and hope,
Your trusted HS warrior, who also keeps believing in better days.
